How to Do Jennifer Lopez’s Skincare Routine

In case you missed it, Jennifer Lopez recently turned 50 (I repeat, 50!) and yet her skin looks like this—not a day over 35.

"People always ask about my skin," she admitted on Today. "I have to say, I have good genes. My mom and my grandma had beautiful skin, so I was blessed in that way. I haven't had any plastic surgery... or injectables or fillers or anything like that."

But she does take care of her skin, and with a simpler routine than you'd think.

"Honestly, my routine hasn't really changed [from when I was in my 20s and 30s]," she told InStyle. "It has always been about maintenance." 

That means she eschews high-tech facials and trendy anti-aging products in favour of basic cleansing, moisturizing and sun protection. And lifestyle plays a big role, too. "I try to get my sleep. I don't smoke. I don't drink."

As you can see, these are the gorgeous results:

And soon, we'll be able to get some of that glow ourselves!

"I will be coming out with a skincare line," Jennifer revealed to Harper's Bazaar in 2018. "I've been working on it for a long time because I don't want to put [just] anything out. I want it to be something that encompasses all the things I've learned and all the secrets I have. And it doesn't have anything to do with needles. It's going to be something that works. That's what you can count on when my name is on something."

Jennifer’s Diet, Exercise and Lifestyle

Diet:

"I also follow a healthy diet.... What you eat doesn't just affect your body; it can also affect the way your skin looks. Protein is my go-to whenever I start having cravings. It fills me up and keeps me full longer. It's a great muscle fuel. I think drinking lots of water and fresh foods with lots of fruits and vegetables—I keep [them] with me at all times—all play into the quality of skin's appearance."

Water:

"Lots of water. Believe it or not, it does help keep your weight down. It obviously keeps you hydrated. For me, it just feels good. It's mostly what I drink all the time. I don't count [how many glasses], I just drink it all day."

Alcohol, Smoking and Caffeine: 

"I don't drink or smoke or have caffeine. That really wrecks your skin as you get older."

Exercise:

Tracy Anderson: "It's no secret that I love dancing, so it doesn't even feel like exercise to me. I freestyle dance with Tracy Anderson five times a week. We'll incorporate light weights for the arms and moves that focus on the butt and thighs and engage the core."

David Kirsch: "I also do circuit training with David Kirsch when I'm in New York. We do hour-long circuits at least three times a week. It's full-body training—so planks, push-ups, boxing—really everything. It's all about changing it up and keeping your body guessing."

Massage:

"I also frequently get massages to loosen up my body and have toxins flushed out of my body."

Meditation:

"First, meditation is one of my secrets for looking and feeling better. I also definitely think beauty comes from within—you have to have keep your mind, soul, body and spirit in sync. I am a firm believer in meditating, and when you are happy and feel joy and love, you radiate beauty."

Affirmations:

"Affirmations are so important. I am youthful and timeless. I tell myself that every day, a few times a day. It sounds like clichéd bullshit, but it's not. Age is all in your mind. Look at Jane Fonda."

Sleep:

"The number one tip is to always get enough sleep. I can't stress this enough. Ideally I would love to get nine or 10 hours of sleep, but either way, I always make sure I get at least eight."
